Welcome to the Capitol Pressroom. I’m Susan Arbetter. On this last weekend of the year we wanted to revisit a program on the struggles facing poor New Yorkers in upstate New York. Many of Governor Cuomo’s economic development efforts are an attempt to address poverty by slowing the decline of upstate cities -‐-‐ cities that, for decades, depended on manufacturing in the mid 20th century. On this audio version of the PBS show Connect: NY, we take you north to Oswego – on the shores of Lake Ontario, to discuss the history of Upstate’s economic decline. Plus we will hear from a panel of experts about what can be done to help these communities. It’s all coming up on this special edition of the Capitol Pressroom.
