Blair Honrer, the executive director of NYPIRG, and Barbara Bartoletti, legislative director of the League of Women Voters of NYS, analyzed the one-house budget bills. We met George Gresham, president of 1199 SEIU and chair of the Mario Cuomo Campaign for Economic Justice, who made the case for raising the minimum wage to $15/hr. We discussed the role of women in politics and UAlbany’s New Leaders NY program with Dina Refki, D.A., the executive director of the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society at the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy, and Sue Faerman, PhD, a UAlbany professor in the Public Administration and Policy Department. Finally, Asm. Andrew Hevesi (D – Flushing), the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Social Services, discussed a plan to reduce reliance on public assistance.
