There is a push to provide insurance to the 1 in 38 New York babies born with a congenital anomalies like a cleft palate. The plastic surgery that is required for many of these children is typically not covered by insurance which turns families to Medicaid. We discussed the issue with Babette Grey, Executive Director of the New York State Society of Plastic Surgeons, and Jennifer Powell, a mom of a child with a cleft palate.
