Ashley Hupfl shared this week’s City & State Winners and Losers. We hosted Joe Spector, Gannett’s Albany Bureau Chief, to explain this week’s primaries and possible changes to the school aid formulas, which would affect how a district’s poverty level is calculated. Rick Timbs, the executive director of the Statewide School Finance Consortium, had more on the Regents’ considerations to alter the formula. Asm. David Buchwald (D – Mt. Kisko) discussed why he wants the DEC to ban the disposal and road spreading of waste from oil and gas production. Then, Brenda Aull-Klaben, the Director of the Syracuse Teachers Center, spoke with Susan about how a poverty simulation trains teachers to better understand the stress and hardships some of their students face and how they can help.
