Michael Borges, the executive director of the New York State Association of School Business Officials, explained the group’s request for a $1.9 billion increase in state aid for schools for 2017 – 2018. We heard two perspectives on classifying the Boreas Ponds Tract of land in the Adirondacks, which is now owned by the state. First, John Sheehan, Director of Communications for the Adirondack Council, and Bill Cooke, Director of Government Relations for the Citizens Campaign for the Environment, made the case for protecting the land as wilderness. Then, Bill Farber, the Supervisor of the Town of Morehouse in Hamilton County and board member of the Adirondack Association of Towns and Villages, explained why he hopes a compromise is made over the land classification.
